The Friends of Freeman's Wood Fungus Walk on 27th October was expertly led by Jon and Pam from the North West Fungus Group and attended by about 30 people. We saw a lot of different types of fungus on a winding and sometimes unexpected route through Freeman's Wood, some with very poetic and distinctly 'halloweeny' names! On the way through the woods we saw Candlesnuff Fungus, Blackening Waxcap, Dung Roundhead, Dead Man's Fingers, Fairy Inkcap and the exploding Collared Earthstar, amongst others. Jon explained how the native trees that will be planted in January 2025 will support a wider variety of fungus in Freeman's Wood, and vice versa!
